Mentoring new adjusters...the results!

We started our volunteer group of claims mentors back on 12/8/2005 as a volunteer effort to help new trainees learn in an environment friendly to trainees wanting to break into the claims field! We have grown to 218 members in a very short time. Our membership includes numerous trainees looking for positions either with staff or as Independents for both daily  and cat  claims. We are very excited about the growth of our online e-mentoring  and the folks volunteering their time to help in our effort! In addition to online e-mentoring involving too many training topics to list, we hold live chat training sessions twice weekly for registered members! What have we found? We have learned over the course of our training with these new adjusters that they don't have a road map to success similiar to that given by large carriers who have your training lined up from licensing through claim schools. Independent adjusters are out on their own once licensed..not sure which direction to go, which vendor classes to take, which order is recommended(estimatics, policy,etc..). That's when we learned about e-mentoring and found that the synergy of a large group of experienced adjusters/managers can make the difference in the lives of many...that giving back what others so generously did for us during our early training years can and is making a difference in the lives of so many new adjusters. Our goal with mentoring new adjusters is to enhance the image of the trainee independent adjuster in the eyes of the carriers to insure the career's of many in this field. The catastrophe seasons of 2004 and 2005 have led to hundreds of newly licensed individuals who need to help of staff and other independents to enhance the professional image we all need to make with policyholders suffering damage.
